Ingredients

3 medium apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, and sliced

1 cup brown sugar

1 tsp ground cinnamon

1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

1 box (15.25 oz) yellow cake mix

1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)

1 cup apple cider (or juice)

1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

Prepare the Apples: In a large mixing bowl, toss the sliced apples with brown sugar and ground cinnamon until evenly coated.

Layer the Apples: Spread the cinnamon-sugar apples evenly in the bottom of a greased 9x13 inch baking dish.

Add Nuts: If using, sprinkle the chopped walnuts or pecans over the apples for added crunch.

Prepare the Cake Mix: In a separate bowl, combine the yellow cake mix with the melted butter, apple cider, and vanilla extract. Mix until just combined (don’t over-mix).

Dump the Cake Batter: Pour the cake batter evenly over the apple mixture. Don’t worry about spreading it too perfectly; it’s a dump cake!

Bake: Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.

Cool & Serve: Let it cool for about 10-15 minutes before serving. It's delicious on its own or served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream!
