Ingredients

1 pound ground beef (80/20 blend)

1 cup mushrooms, finely chopped (cremini or button mushrooms)

1 small onion, finely diced

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

½ teaspoon dried thyme

Salt and pepper to taste

4 slices Swiss cheese

4 burger buns (preferably brioche)

2 tablespoons olive oil

Fresh arugula or spinach for garnish

Mayonnaise and Dijon mustard for dressing (optional)

Instructions

Sauté the Mushrooms: In a medium skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium heat. Add the finely chopped mushrooms, diced onions, and minced garlic. Sauté until the mushrooms are browned and the onions are translucent, about 5-7 minutes. Season with salt, pepper, and dried thyme. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.

Prepare the Patty Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, cooked mushroom mixture, and Worcestershire sauce. Gently mix until just combined; be careful not to overwork the meat to ensure the patties remain tender.

Form Patties: Divide the meat mixture into four equal portions and form each portion into a patty about ¾-inch thick. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty with your thumb to help them cook evenly.

Cook the Patties: In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of olive oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the patties, cooking for about 4-5 minutes on one side. Flip the patties and add a slice of Swiss cheese on top. Cook for another 3-4 minutes until the cheese is melted and the patty reaches your desired doneness.

Toast the Buns: While the patties are cooking, you can toast the burger buns on another pan over medium heat until golden brown.

Assemble the Burgers: Spread mayonnaise and Dijon mustard (if desired) on the toasted buns. Place a cheesy patty on the bottom half of each bun, add a handful of fresh arugula or spinach, and top with the other half of the bun.

Serve: Serve your savory mushroom and Swiss burgers immediately, paired with sweet potato fries or a simple side salad for a complete meal.
