Ingredients

1 pound ground beef

1/4 cup breadcrumbs

1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1 small onion, finely diced

1 clove garlic, minced

1 large egg

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 teaspoon Dijon mustard

Salt and black pepper to taste

2 tablespoons olive oil (for frying)

For the Mushroom Gravy:

8 ounces mushrooms, sliced

1 medium onion, thinly sliced

2 tablespoons butter

2 cups beef broth

2 tablespoons cornstarch, mixed with 2 tablespoons water

1 teaspoon thyme

Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

Prepare the Patties: In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, diced onion, minced garlic, egg, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined, then shape into four equal-sized patties.

Cook the Patties: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add the patties and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until browned and cooked through. Remove from the skillet and set aside.

Make the Gravy: In the same skillet, add butter, sliced mushrooms, and onion. Sauté until the mushrooms are browned and the onion is soft, about 5-7 minutes.

Add Broth and Thicken: Pour in the beef broth and bring to a simmer. Stir in the thyme, and season with salt and pepper. Gradually add the cornstarch mixture, stirring continuously until the gravy thickens, about 2-4 minutes.

Combine and Serve: Return the cooked patties to the skillet, spoon the gravy over them, and let them simmer together for 2-3 minutes to absorb the flavors. Serve warm over mashed potatoes or egg noodles.
