Ingredients

1 lb (450g) ground beef (preferably lean)

2 medium onions, finely chopped

2 medium tomatoes, chopped

3 cloves garlic, minced

1-inch piece of ginger, grated

2-3 green chilies, slit lengthwise (adjust to taste)

1 cup peas (fresh or frozen)

4 tablespoons vegetable oil or ghee

1 teaspoon cumin seeds

1 teaspoon coriander powder

1 teaspoon cumin powder

1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder

1 teaspoon garam masala

Salt, to taste

1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped (for garnish)

1 tablespoon lemon juice

Instructions

Heat Oil: In a large pan or skillet, heat the vegetable oil or ghee over medium heat. Add the cumin seeds and let them sizzle for a few seconds.

Sauté Onions: Add the finely chopped onions to the pan and sauté until they turn golden brown, about 7-10 minutes.

Add Aromatics: Stir in the minced garlic, grated ginger, and slit green chilies. Cook for an additional 2 minutes until fragrant.

Tomatoes and Spices: Add the chopped tomatoes to the pan along with the turmeric powder, coriander powder, and cumin powder. Cook until the tomatoes are soft and the oil begins to separate from the mixture (about 5 minutes).

Cook Beef: Increase the heat to medium-high and add the ground beef. Cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until it is browned and fully cooked, roughly 10 minutes. Add salt to taste.

Incorporate Peas: Toss in the peas and mix well. Cook for another 5 minutes or until the peas are tender.

Finishing Touches: Sprinkle the garam masala on top and stir well. Remove from heat. Add the lemon juice and mix gently.

Garnish and Serve: Transfer the Qeema to a serving dish. Garnish with fresh chopped cilantro. Serve hot with naan, rice, or parathas.
