Ingredients

8 oz cream cheese, softened

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 cup powdered sugar

1 tsp vanilla extract

2 cups whipped topping (like Cool Whip)

2 (3.9 oz) packages of instant chocolate pudding mix

4 cups milk

1 (16 oz) package of chocolate sandwich cookies (such as Oreos)

Gummy worms (for garnish)

Edible moss (optional, can be made from crushed green coconut or edible grass candies)

Instructions

Crush the Cookies: Start by placing the chocolate sandwich cookies in a food processor and pulse them into fine crumbs. Set aside a small amount of cookie crumbs for topping later.

Make the Cream Cheese Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese and butter together until smooth and creamy. Gradually add in the powdered sugar and vanilla extract, continuing to mix until fully combined and fluffy.

Fold in Whipped Topping: Gently fold in the whipped topping until no streaks remain. This will create a light and airy mousse-like layer for your dirt cake.

Prepare the Pudding: In another bowl, whisk together the chocolate pudding mix with milk and stir for about 2 minutes until it begins to thicken. Let it sit for a few minutes to achieve full thickness.

Combine Mixtures: Once the pudding is set, fold it into the cream cheese and whipped topping mixture until it's evenly combined. The result should be a rich, chocolatey filling.

Layer the Cake: In a large trifle dish or individual cups, start layering: add a layer of the cream cheese mixture followed by a layer of cookie crumbs, then a layer of pudding mixture. Repeat this process, starting and ending with the cookie crumbs for the ‘dirt’ look.

Finish with Toppings: Sprinkle the reserved cookie crumbs on top of the final layer. To make it even more fun and thematic, decorate the top with gummy worms and if using, sprinkle some edible moss for an earthy effect.

Chill and Serve: Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight, to allow the flavors to meld and the layers to set. When ready to serve, you can add extra gummy worms on top for an added touch!
