Ingredients

1 block (14 oz) firm tofu, pressed and drained

1 cup cornstarch

1/2 cup all-purpose flour (or gluten-free flour)

1/2 teaspoon garlic powder

1/2 teaspoon onion powder

1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika

Salt and pepper, to taste

Vegetable oil, for frying

1/3 cup teriyaki sauce (store-bought or homemade)

1 tablespoon sesame seeds

2 green onions, thinly sliced (for garnish)

Instructions

Prepare the Tofu: Cut the pressed tofu block into bite-sized cubes (about 1-inch) and set aside.

Season the Coating: In a large mixing bowl, combine cornstarch, flour, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Mix well to ensure even distribution of the spices.

Coat the Tofu: Add the tofu cubes to the seasoned flour mixture. Gently toss the tofu until all the pieces are well-coated. Ensure that each piece is covered evenly.

Heat the Oil: In a large frying pan or skillet, heat about 1/4 inch of vegetable oil over medium heat until shimmering.

Fry the Nuggets: Carefully add the coated tofu nuggets in batches (do not overcrowd the pan) and fry for about 4-5 minutes per side or until golden brown and crispy. Use tongs to turn them for even cooking. Once cooked, transfer the nuggets to a plate lined with paper towels to absorb excess oil.

Glaze the Nuggets: In a separate saucepan, heat the teriyaki sauce on medium-low until warmed through. Once the nuggets are crispy and drained, toss them in the teriyaki sauce until well coated.

Serve: Sprinkle sesame seeds and sliced green onions over the glazed tofu nuggets. Serve immediately with additional teriyaki sauce for dipping, if desired.
