Ingredients

1 block (14 oz) firm tofu, pressed and drained

1 cup cornstarch

1/4 cup soy sauce

1/4 cup honey or maple syrup (for vegan option)

2 tablespoons rice vinegar

1 tablespoon sesame oil

2 tablespoons fresh ginger, minced

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water (for thickening sauce)

2 tablespoons sesame seeds

2 green onions, chopped (for garnish)

Cooking oil (for frying)

Instructions

Prepare the Tofu:

    - Begin by pressing the tofu for at least 30 minutes to remove excess moisture. After pressing, cut the tofu into 1-inch cubes.

      Coat the Tofu:

        - In a large bowl, add the cornstarch. Toss the tofu cubes with the cornstarch evenly, ensuring they are well-coated. This will help achieve a crispy texture when frying.

          Fry the Tofu:

            - Heat a generous amount of cooking oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the tofu cubes in a single layer, frying in batches if necessary. Fry for about 4-5 minutes on each side until golden and crispy. Remove the tofu and place it on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

              Make the Teriyaki Sauce:

                - In a separate saucepan, combine the soy sauce, honey or maple syrup, rice vinegar, sesame oil, minced ginger, and minced garlic. Bring to a gentle simmer over medium heat.

                  Thicken the Sauce:

                    - Once the sauce is simmering, stir in the cornstarch mixed with water to thicken it. Continue to cook for 2-3 minutes until the sauce is glossy and slightly thickened. Remove from heat.

                      Combine Tofu with Sauce:

                        - In a large bowl, gently toss the crispy tofu cubes with the teriyaki sauce until they are thoroughly coated.

                          Garnish and Serve:

                            - Transfer the coated tofu to a serving platter. Sprinkle sesame seeds and chopped green onions on top for garnish. Serve immediately.

Enjoy your delightful Crispy Teriyaki Tofu Cubes as a snack, appetizer, or over a bed of rice for a satisfying meal!
