Ingredients

2 cups fresh figs, quartered

1 cup fig jam (store-bought or homemade)

1 cup vegetable or chicken broth

1 cup heavy cream

1 tablespoon olive oil

1 small onion, finely chopped

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves (or ½ teaspoon dried thyme)

1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar

Salt and pepper to taste

Chopped fresh parsley or basil for garnish

Optional: Toasted bread or croutons for serving

Instructions

Sauté the Aromatics: In a large pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until translucent, about 5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and thyme, cooking for an additional 1-2 minutes until fragrant.

Add Figs and Jam: Stir in the quartered fresh figs and fig jam, mixing until the figs are coated with the jam and heated through, about 3-4 minutes.

Pour In Broth: Gradually pour in the vegetable or chicken broth, stirring to combine. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, allowing it to cook for about 10 minutes to let the flavors meld.

Blend: Carefully transfer the mixture to a blender or use an immersion blender to puree the soup until smooth. If using a blender, return the soupy mixture to the pot after blending.

Stir In the Cream: Lower the heat and stir in the heavy cream and balsamic vinegar. Let it simmer for another 5 minutes, adjusting the seasoning with salt and pepper to taste.

Serve: Ladle the soup into bowls and garnish with chopped parsley or basil. If desired, serve with toasted bread or croutons for added texture.
