Ingredients

2 cans of refrigerated cinnamon rolls (with icing)

6 large eggs

1 cup milk (whole or 2%)

1/2 cup heavy cream

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

1/4 cup brown sugar

1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)

1/4 cup raisins or dried cranberries (optional)

Pinch of salt

Powdered sugar for dusting (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.

Prepare the cinnamon rolls: Open the cans of cinnamon rolls and separate them. Cut each roll into quarters and place them evenly in the greased baking dish. If using, evenly distribute the nuts and dried fruits over the cinnamon roll pieces.

Make the custard mixture: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, heavy cream, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, nutmeg, brown sugar, and a pinch of salt until well combined.

Combine: Pour the custard mixture over the cinnamon roll pieces in the baking dish, making sure to coat them evenly. Gently push down the cinnamon roll pieces with a spatula to ensure they are submerged in the liquid.

Bake: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 30-40 minutes, or until the custard is set and the top is golden brown. You can cover the dish with aluminum foil halfway through baking if the top is browning too quickly.

Prepare the icing: While the casserole is baking, remove the icing packet from the cinnamon rolls. If desired, you can warm it up slightly in the microwave for about 10 seconds.

Finish: Once the casserole is done, let it cool for about 10 minutes before drizzling the icing over the top. Optionally, dust with powdered sugar for an extra touch of sweetness.

Serve: Slice the casserole into squares and serve warm. Enjoy your delightful breakfast or brunch treat!
