Ingredients

For the Brownie Layer:

1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, melted

1 1/4 cups granulated sugar

1 cup packed brown sugar

4 large eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup all-purpose flour

1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

For the Cookie Dough Layer:

1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup packed brown sugar

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

Preheat & Prepare: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.

    Make the Brownie Layer:

      - In a large bowl, mix the melted butter with granulated sugar and brown sugar until well combined.

        - Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

          - In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add this dry mixture to the wet ingredients and stir until just combined.

            - Fold in the chocolate chips. Pour the brownie batter into the prepared baking dish, spreading it evenly.

              Prepare the Cookie Dough Layer:

                - In another bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until fluffy.

                  - Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.

                    - In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add this to the wet ingredients, mixing until just incorporated.

                      - Gently fold in the chocolate chips.

                        Layering:

                          - Drop spoonfuls of the cookie dough over the brownie layer. You don't need to spread it completely; it can be chunky and uneven for a nice texture.

                            Bake:

                              - Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for about 30-35 minutes. A toothpick inserted into the middle should come out with a few moist crumbs, but not wet batter.

                                Cooling & Serving:

                                  - Once baked, remove from the oven and let it cool in the pan on a wire rack for at least 15-20 minutes before slicing into squares.

                                    - Serve warm or at room temperature, with a scoop of ice cream if desired!

Prep Time: 20 minutes | Total Time: 1 hour | Servings: 12-16 squares
