Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1 tablespoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed

1/2 cup pecans, chopped

1/2 cup heavy cream

1/4 cup pure maple syrup

1 large egg

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Optional: Extra maple syrup for drizzling and coarse sugar for sprinkling

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.

Add Butter: Add the cold, cubed butter to the flour mixture. Using a pastry cutter or your fingertips, work the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs with pea-sized pieces of butter remaining.

Incorporate Pecans: Stir in the chopped pecans until evenly distributed throughout the mixture.

Combine Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the heavy cream, maple syrup, egg, and vanilla extract until smooth.

Form the Dough: Pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients. Gently fold the mixture together using a spatula until just combined. Be careful not to overmix; it’s okay if the dough is a bit shaggy.

Shape the Scones: Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. With floured hands, gently shape the dough into a disk about 1-inch thick. Cut the disk into 8 wedges or use a round cutter for a circular shape.

Bake the Scones: Place the scones onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them apart. If desired, brush the tops with a bit of cream and sprinkle with coarse sugar. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown on top.

Cool & Drizzle: Remove the scones from the oven and allow them to cool slightly on the baking sheet. Drizzle with additional maple syrup if desired before serving.

Serve: Enjoy these buttery maple pecan scones warm or at room temperature with your favorite jam or fresh cream!
