Ingredients

For the Biscuit Crust:

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 tablespoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed

1 cup buttermilk

For the Sausage Gravy:

1 pound breakfast sausage

1/4 cup all-purpose flour

2 cups milk (whole or 2%)

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)

For Toppings:

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

2 large eggs (optional)

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Make the Biscuit Crust:

    - Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C).

      - In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

        - Add the cold cubed butter to the flour mixture and using a pastry cutter or your fingers, mix until it resembles coarse crumbs.

          - Slowly pour in the buttermilk, stirring until just combined. Do not overmix.

            - Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and gently knead it a few times until it comes together. Roll or press the dough into a 12-inch round pizza crust.

              Pre-bake the Biscuit Crust:

                - Place the biscuit crust on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for about 10-12 minutes until lightly golden.

                  Prepare the Sausage Gravy:

                    - In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the breakfast sausage until browned and crumbly. Remove excess grease, leaving about 2 tablespoons in the pan.

                      - Sprinkle the flour over the cooked sausage and stir to coat. Gradually add the milk, whisking continuously to avoid lumps.

                        - Season with salt, black pepper, and crushed red pepper flakes (if using). Cook until the gravy thickens, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from heat.

                          Assemble the Pizza:

                            - Remove the pre-baked biscuit crust from the oven. Spread the sausage gravy evenly over the crust.

                              - Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the gravy. (Optional: crack two eggs on top for an extra protein kick!).

                                Bake the Breakfast Pizza:

                                  - Return the pizza to the oven and bake for an additional 10-12 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly, and eggs are cooked to your liking.

                                    Serve and Garnish:

                                      - Remove the pizza from the oven, and cut into slices. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve immediately. Enjoy your delicious morning treat!
