Ingredients

4 large buttery croissants

8 oz (225g) cooked ham, thinly sliced

8 oz (225g) Gruyère cheese, grated (or Swiss cheese)

4 tbsp Dijon mustard

2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted

1 tsp dried thyme (optional)

Fresh black pepper to taste

1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Prepare the Croissants: Slice each croissant in half horizontally, but don’t cut all the way through. You want to create a pocket for the filling.

Apply Mustard: Spread about 1 tablespoon of Dijon mustard on the inside of each croissant half.

Layer the Ingredients: Begin layering the filling by placing 2 oz of the ham on the bottom half of each croissant, followed by 2 oz of the grated Gruyère cheese. If using thyme, sprinkle a pinch on top of the cheese.

Close and Brush: Gently press the top half of the croissant down onto the filling. Brush the tops of the croissants with the melted butter and sprinkle with black pepper.

Egg Wash: Using a pastry brush, apply the beaten egg wash over the top of each croissant for a golden finish.

Bake: Place the filled croissants on the prepared baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for approximately 15-20 minutes, or until the croissants are golden brown and the cheese has melted.

Serve: Remove from the oven and let cool for 5 minutes. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley before serving. Enjoy your cheesy, melty croissant goodness!
