Ingredients

1 lb (450g) beef sirloin, thinly sliced

2 tablespoons vegetable oil

4 cloves garlic, minced

1 small shallot, finely sliced

2 Thai bird's eye chilies, chopped (adjust to taste)

1 red bell pepper, julienned

1 cup green beans, trimmed and cut into 2-inch pieces

3 tablespoons soy sauce

1 tablespoon oyster sauce

1 tablespoon fish sauce

1 tablespoon brown sugar

1 cup fresh Thai basil leaves (or regular basil if unavailable)

Cooked jasmine rice, for serving

Instructions

Prep the Beef: Start by slicing the beef sirloin against the grain into thin strips. This will ensure tenderness when cooked.

Marinate the Beef: In a medium bowl, combine the sliced beef with 1 tablespoon of soy sauce, 1 tablespoon of oyster sauce, and 1 teaspoon of brown sugar. Mix well and let it marinate for at least 15 minutes to infuse the flavors.

Heat the Wok: Heat a large wok or skillet over high heat and add 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil. It should shimmer when ready.

Sauté Aromatics: Toss in the minced garlic, finely sliced shallot, and chopped bird's eye chilies. Stir-fry for about 30 seconds until fragrant, being careful not to burn the garlic.

Cook the Beef: Add the marinated beef into the hot wok in a single layer. Let it sear without stirring for about 1 minute, then stir-fry until just cooked through, around 2-3 minutes. Remove the beef from the wok and set aside.

Stir-Fry Vegetables: In the same wok, add a bit more oil if necessary, then add the julienned red bell pepper and green beans. Stir-fry for 2-3 minutes until they are tender-crisp.

Combine Everything: Return the cooked beef to the wok with the vegetables. Mix well and add the remaining soy sauce, oyster sauce, fish sauce, and brown sugar. Stir everything to combine and create a delicious sauce for about 1 minute on high heat.

Add Basil: Remove from heat and toss in the fresh Thai basil leaves. Stir until wilted and fragrant, about 30 seconds.

Serve: Serve the aromatic Thai basil beef stir fry immediately over cooked jasmine rice, garnished with additional basil if desired.
