Ingredients

For the Cheesecake Layer:

8 oz cream cheese, softened

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1 large egg

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 tsp lemon juice

For the Apple Crisp Topping:

3 medium apples, peeled and diced (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp preferred)

1 tsp cinnamon

1/4 cup brown sugar

1/2 cup rolled oats

1/3 cup all-purpose flour

1/4 cup cold butter, cubed

1/4 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)

For the Bread:

2 cups all-purpose flour

1 tsp baking powder

1 tsp baking soda

1/2 tsp salt

1 tsp cinnamon

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

1 cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs

1 tsp vanilla extract

1/2 cup buttermilk

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x5 inch loaf pan or line it with parchment paper.

Prepare the Cheesecake Layer: In a mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese with granulated sugar until smooth. Add the egg, vanilla extract, and lemon juice, and mix until fully combined. Set aside.

Make the Apple Crisp Topping: In another bowl, combine the diced apples with cinnamon and brown sugar. Set aside. In a separate bowl, mix oats, flour, and chopped nuts (if using). Cut in the cold butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Set aside.

Mix the Bread Batter: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon. In another bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, and vanilla extract, mixing well. Alternate adding the dry ingredients and buttermilk to the butter mixture, mixing until just combined.

Layer the Ingredients: Pour half of the bread batter into the prepared loaf pan. Spread half of the cheesecake layer over the batter. Sprinkle half of the apple mixture on top. Pour the remaining batter on top, followed by the remaining cheesecake layer and finishing with the rest of the apple mixture. Finally, sprinkle the apple crisp topping evenly over the top.

Bake the Bread: Bake in the preheated oven for 50–60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. If the top browns too quickly, you can cover it with aluminum foil halfway through baking.

Cool and Serve: Once baked, remove from the oven and allow the loaf to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes. Then, transfer to a wire rack to cool completely. Slice and serve warm or at room temperature.
