Ingredients

2 cups rolled oats

1 cup almonds, roughly chopped

1/2 cup sunflower seeds

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup unsweetened apple sauce

1/3 cup honey or maple syrup

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup dried apples, chopped

1/4 cup raisins (optional)

1/4 cup chocolate chips (optional)

Instructions

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line an 8x8-inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal.

Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, combine the rolled oats, chopped almonds, sunflower seeds, ground cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Stir well to ensure everything is evenly mixed.

Combine Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the apple sauce, honey (or maple syrup), and vanilla extract until smooth.

Combine Mixtures: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry mixture. Stir until all the ingredients are evenly coated. Fold in the chopped dried apples, raisins, and chocolate chips if using.

Spread in Pan: Transfer the mixture into the prepared baking pan. Press it down firmly to create an even layer. The more compact it is, the better it will hold together when baked.

Bake: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown.

Cool and Slice: Remove the pan from the oven and let it cool in the pan for about 15 minutes. Use the parchment overhang to lift the granola slab out of the pan and let it cool completely on a wire rack. Once cooled, cut into bars or squares.

Store: Store the granola bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week or refrigerate them for longer freshness.
