1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened

3/4 cup granulated sugar

3/4 cup packed brown sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

2 large eggs

2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

1/2 teaspoon salt

2 cups semisweet chocolate chips

1 cup chopped mixed nuts (optional)

Sea salt flakes (for topping, optional)

Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

    Cream Butter and Sugars: In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy. This should take about 2-3 minutes.

      Add Eggs and Vanilla: Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then stir in the vanilla extract until everything is well combined.

        Mix Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt.

          Combine Mixtures: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined. Be careful not to overmix!

            Fold in Chocolate Chips and Nuts: Gently fold in the semisweet chocolate chips and chopped nuts if using. You want them evenly distributed throughout the dough.

              Scoop and Shape: Using a cookie scoop or tablespoon, drop the dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart. For that gourmet touch, you can gently press a few extra chocolate chips onto the tops of the cookies.

                Sprinkle with Sea Salt: If desired, sprinkle a tiny pinch of sea salt flakes on top of each cookie dough mound.

                  Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are golden and the centers look slightly underbaked.

                    Cooling Time: Remove the cookies from the oven and let them sit on the baking sheet for 5 minutes to firm up, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
